This holds all 104 engravings from the 1614 Hortus Floridus, widely regarded among botanists as a horticultural masterpiece. No color; but a fine historic reproduction of an early masterwork.

A Garden of Greek Verse: Poems of Ancient Greece
Published in Hardcover by Getty Trust Pubn (February, 2001)
Author: J Paul Getty Museum
Average review score:

A fine place to be.
A lot of people find Greek and Latin literature boring as hell. If they refer to their school books I cannot blame them. But lets keep in mind that Sappho wrote poetry 'as refreshing as a morning breeze' and that Euripides sometimes wrote horror as if he was an early incarnation of Stephen King.Homer is often humorous for instance when he describes Zeus who's afraid that his wife Hera will be mad at him if he should change the course of the Trojan war. In 'A garden of Greek verse' are poems and excerpts of poems from about sixteen authors, a lot of it no more than two or three lines. To name a few of less known authors: Anacreon, Alcman, Callimachus, Menander, Palladas. 'A Garden of Greek Verse' proofs to us that Greek literature is a very intresting place to travel with a large variety of landscapes. I should say: read this little book of 80 pages, enjoy the beautiful illustrations and forget all about your school books.

A Garden of Latin Verse: Poems of Ancient Rome

Poetry married to picture
This delightful little book cites excerpts of Latin poetry by Ovid, Catullus, Vergil, and Horace, which are matched with translations by such venerable English poets as John Dryden, Alexander Pope, William Wordsworth and Richard Lovelace. On the facing pages are lovely reproductions of frescoes and mosaics, mostly recovered from Pompeii. You'll find some famous quotations, for example this from Horace, "They are not long, the days of wine and roses: Out of a misty dream/Our path emerges for a while, then closes/Within a dream." It would make a nice gift for a literary friend--or for yourself to take along to the park on a lazy summer afternoon.

A Lovely Book for Self or Gift
This is a lovely small book. The scriptures are relevant to any occasion, of course, and referenced, and the painting reproductions are nicely done on good quality paper. This is a book in good taste for a gift of any kind, especially for older people or when a token gift is in order. I intend to order all in the series.

A Garden of Memories-A Written Remembrance
Published in Paperback by Grief Recovery Group (03 June, 1999)
Authors: Ellyn Nadeau and Ellyn J. Nadeau
Average review score:

A wonderful book which can help to ease pain and sorrow.
The memories of your deceased loved-one will bring great joy and laughter and at times sadness. This book helps to capture these moments in time, to be read again and again. It will be a valuable source of healing for those who are left here to remember. Although flowers are nice, this book allows for lasting memories which will not fade. This can be passed down to younger generations so they, too, can feel a connection to the family's past.

A Garden of One's Own: Making and Keeping Your Flower Garden
Published in Hardcover by William Morrow (June, 1994)
Authors: Elsa Bakalar, Gary Mottau, and Elayne Sears
Average review score:

A must-read for beginning gardeners
Serious gardeners need many kind of books, but one of the very first everyone should have is Elsa Bakalar's "A Garden of One's Own." She demystifies gardening so that a newcomer such as myself learns quickly how to do the many tasks that other books consider too rudimentary to explain. Her obvious talent for teaching is invaluable, and having her book at your side is almost as good as having a gardening tutor next to you. I refer to it often, and recommend it to anyone who gardens.
